After some five years of planning and construction, the new "Teda No. 1 School" was inaugurated in September, and it marks the first project schneider+schumacher has completed in China. A total of 2,700 students now have at their disposal new classrooms, a library, an event hall for 600 people and a sports hall. schneider+schumacher won the competition in 2012 with its proposal to completely replace the existing school building with a new building.
Characteristic of the design is a corridor more than 180m long, which centrally connects all functional areas and at the same time provides the students with a high-quality space for informal meetings and communication – a feature that is often missing in traditional Chinese schools.
